New Energy Jobs Alliance
Maine’s interrelated economic and energy challenges have deep roots.
We have the oldest housing stock, the greatest reliance on heating oil and some of the highest electricity costs of any state in the nation. Additionally, Maine has the lowest incomes and education levels in New England, and the nation’s oldest workforce and highest percentage of young people who are neither working nor pursuing an education.
To turn these challenges into an economic development opportunity, Opportunity Maine is working to:
- Create good jobs and economic opportunity for our workers, businesses and communities
- Cut energy costs and secure energy independence
- Ensure broadly shared prosperity and a sustainable environment for this and future generations of Mainers
Our nationally recognized model energy legislation and Green Jobs, Green Savings report played a critical role in the recent creation of a major statewide energy efficiency investment program tied to green-skilled education and training opportunities.
