Founded in 2006, Opportunity Maine promotes economic security and sustainable development with innovative investments in the education and skills of our workforce.

Whether through universal expansions of educational opportunity such as the Opportunity Maine Program, or through tailored but comprehensive sector-based approaches such as our New Energy Jobs Initiative, we strive to make investments in human capital and strong communities a central focus of Maine’s economic development strategy.

All of our work builds upon one core, long-term objective: as a basic social right and an economic necessity, Maine must create a universal education guarantee for the 21st Century that spans early childhood through lifelong learning with effective social and economic supports – at whatever point in life they are needed – and must connect those educational opportunities to the creation of high-skill, high-wage jobs.
